What the Narrative layer does
The Narrative layer adds spoken narration to a project. Add it like any other layer; it sits on the timeline alongside the chart.
In data-driven projects, including comparisons, it can generate a script from the data itself — reading the story the numbers tell. In slideshows you write the lines yourself and they are voiced for you.
Either way, the script is editable before you generate audio. Reading it once before spending credits is worth the thirty seconds.
Choosing a voice
Several voices are built in. If your organisation has its own ElevenLabs library — a cloned brand voice, for instance — choose Custom ElevenLabs voice and paste the voice id to narrate with it.
For a team producing recurring content, agreeing on one voice up front is worth doing. Consistency across a series reads as production value.
How credits are counted
Narration draws on a monthly pool of AI credits, shown next to storage and video export in your usage.
One minute of narration audio costs 250 credits. Credits are consumed when audio is generated, not when a script is written, so editing the text costs nothing.
The Narrative layer shows the remaining balance before you generate, and credits refresh with your billing period.
What each plan includes
Free — no allowance. Every credit is a paid provider call, so narration needs a paid plan.
Pro — 10,000 credits a month, around forty minutes of narration.
Team — 15,000 credits per seat, pooled across the whole organisation. This is the detail that matters for a team: the pool is shared, so a heavy user and a light user on the same workspace balance each other out rather than one running dry while the other's allowance goes unused.
A Pro trial is capped at 2,000 credits — enough to evaluate narration properly, not enough to produce a channel on trials.

What happens when we run out of credits?
Narration generation stops until the pool refreshes with your billing period. Everything else in the product — building charts, rendering video — is unaffected, since only narration draws on credits.
Do credits roll over?
No. The allowance refreshes each billing period, so unused credits do not accumulate. Plan recurring narration work against the monthly figure rather than saving it up.
Is a re-generated take charged again?
Yes. Each generation is a fresh provider call, so re-recording a line after an edit costs credits again. This is the reason to settle the script before generating.
Which project types support narration?
Data-driven projects, comparisons, and slideshows. Comparisons and races can generate a script from their data; slideshows take a script you write.
